CREATE YOUR OWN FOOD PHILOSOPHY
When it comes to nutrition, what we should be eating, and why we should be eating what we are eating, everybody has an opinion. The online world is full of articles and social media pages all trying to say that their way is the best way.
But what about you? What is best for you? I am someone who has dabbled in to a lot of the latest “crazes”. I have been on a holistic healing journey brought on by skin conditions (still on the journey obviously…) which has involved testing and dietary restrictions, and whilst I agree with some of the scientific evidence towards various ideas, I have learnt that a balanced, healthy approach to your diet and nutrition and lifestyle, is going to be the best thing for you. I have learnt about what makes me feel good, and what doesn’t. I have identified what makes me bloated, and what doesn’t. I know what makes me moody, and what doesn’t. I have become very self aware and when I make choices that may not be perfect, I know that it is not the best one, but I make it anyway.
Everything in moderation is fine, until it is not.
I am not going to tell you what you should and shouldn’t be eating, unless of course you ask for my opinion! In saying that, knowledge is power, and I think the way food has been marketed to us for big companies to make big dollars has brainwashed a lot of us into thinking the choices we are making are okay, when really, sometimes they just are not.
Do you read your food labels? I do. Even when I buy “convenience food”, I choose the items that are lower in sugar and definitely artificial free with limited ingredients, and ingredients I understand. Everything has a “cleaner” option. Maybe not perfect, but who is? Nobody can cook absolutely 100% from scratch without it affecting some other aspect of their life…. Been there, done that!
So this is just a little bit of an insight into my life, how we manage it, keeping it real, and I hope to pass on a little bit of knowledge to help you on your way!
I create my own food philosophy based on what works for me, and my family.
I will start with what I eat and my one main piece of advice to start doing today!
WHAT DO I EAT?
From left to right (Top): Smoothie, Rice Cakes with leftover Roast Lamb, Turkey Mince, Beans, Veg & Rice Tamari Almonds, Breakfast Sausages, Bare Blends Greens, Turkey Meatballs & Salad Coconut Cream & Blue Berries, Chocolate Avocado Mousse, Smoothie Bowl
Some may wonder what I eat on a regular basis…. Above is a selection of my diet over the last several days. Like mentioned, I have been following dietary restrictions and there are some things I would eat if I could (like eggs!!!!!!!)
Generally my day looks something like this:
Breakfast – Smoothie Bowl, Turkey Mince & Veg or Breakfast Paleo Sausages & Greens Powder
Morning Tea – Tamari Almonds & Kiwi Fruit
Lunch – Turkey Mince & Brown Rice & Veg
Afternoon Tea – Protein Shake & Rice Cakes with Nut Butter
Dinner (none pictured) – Meat & Veg (either Sweet Potato or Rice as carbs), cooked different flavoursome (and sometimes boring!) ways.
My lunches are the same everyday, I meal prep a heap at a time and its easy and satisfying. I used to muck around doing a few different ones for variety, but I would rather eat the same lunch for 12 days in a row, taking a lot less time to prepare them!
If there was one piece of advice I would give to you to implement straight away, I would say increase your protein! I will give you the reason why in my next post!
