THE IMPORTANCE OF POST WORKOUT NUTRITION

You have just completed your workout.  Your muscles are sore, your body is tired, your heart rate is recovering, your mind is energetic, your endorphins are flowing.  What next?

Your body has just spent an amount of time under pressure, under stress, depleting and attempting to refill energy stores, muscles have been contracting rapidly.  The fine details, the amount of chemical energy that our bodies convert on a continual basis, is something we could not even begin to comprehend, let alone when we are placing load on them!

The 45 minutes following a workout are VITAL in your recovery, for your fat loss potential, for your muscle growth, for your immune system support.

Below are the steps your body takes after a workout and its repair process, the right nutrition and supplementation is imperative to keeping your body running optimally.

1.  Immune System – Food is fuel, heal your body, feed it correctly to prevent unnecessary stress.

2. ATP-CP (Creatine-Phosphate) – your chemical energy stores need refilling – fight or flight!  Protein, protein, protein!  You can also go straight to the source, Creatine.

3. Glycogen – your glycogen levels have been depleted, your body needs carbs.  Go straight to the source – Glucose!

4. Ammonia Removal – Your body is breaking down protein.. The liver is trying very hard at filtering this out of your system, Glutamine transfers the nitrogen to the muscles, removing the ammonia, exactly what you want and aiding in muscle recovery.

5. Endocrine System (hormones) – To stop the release of negative effect hormones, your body needs protein to maintain the healthy balance in your system.

6. Psychological – Feed your body, feed your brain.

7. Make/Repair Muscle – Your muscle feeds off protein.  Without protein, new muscle cannot be developed, your muscles can not repair.  Adequate protein is the MOST important thing you can do if you want to get results!  Whether you are trying to torch fat, build size, increase your strength, or tone your body, without the correct nutrition, your workouts will not be as efficient, and your results will not happen as effectively.

How much you individually need is incorporated into your custom nutrition plans, however, I can recommend you begin with a good quality protein powder following any workout.  This is the easiest and most effective way to aid your recovery and increase your chances of fat loss and muscle development. Follow this up with a well balanced meal within 2 hours.
